Comparing Carbohydrate Requirements for the Atkins Diet and the Food Pyramid Guide      ââ¬Å"Carbohydrates are an organic compound that serves as a major energy source for the bodyâ⬠ (Dictionary.com).     These carbohydrates convert to sugars that trigger   insulin production, which our body needs for certain   processes, and triggers fat storage (Health-Doc.com).   According to the Institute of Medicine, adults should   get 45 to 65 percent of their calories from   carbohydrates. That is roughly seven servings based   on a 2000 calorie diet. At least one of the two   carbohydrate diet plans states something different.   The Atkins diet requires a limited amount of   carbohydrates for consumption while the Food Pyramid   Guide developed by USDA and supported by the   Department of Health and Human Services allows for   many more servings.
